341 meeting of creditors

Where will the “meeting of Creditors” be held?

Anyone who files a chapter 7 or chapter bankruptcy has to appear at a meeting of creditors, called a “341” meeting in reference to bankruptcy code section 341.

Since the Covid-19 epidemic began, chapter 7 hearings have been held by telephone. Chapter 13 hearings have been held by Zoom. Prior to Covid, the hearings were held in the federal courthouse in Redding.

The meetings are usually fairly informal. You do not have to dress up, even if you appear on Zoom. The trustee, the person appointed by the courts to administer your case, will interview you to confirm you have read and signed the papers and have accurately and completely disclosed all your assets and income. Occasionally a creditor will appear and ask you questions as well, but this does not happen often.
